The Touareg is the larger of Volkswagen’s two SUV offerings. It comes in a base Comfortline, Highline, and Execline models. Each model offers the same choice of one of two engines (gas or diesel): a 3.6L FSI, 6-cylinder, 280 horsepower (hp) engine that produces 266 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque; or a diesel, 3.0L Turbocharged, 6-cylinder, TDI 225 horsepower (hp) engine that produces 406 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque. Both engines come with an 8-speed Automatic transmission (with Tiptronic 4MOTION), but the 3.0 TDI adds an additional ~$5,000 to the cost of whatever model it is included with. Differences between the available models revolve around standard included options, for instance the power glass panoramic sunroof comes standard in both the Highline and Exceline models, but is an added option for the Comfortline; and the top end Execline is the only model to come equipped with 8.5J x 19″ alloy wheels (the largest of the 3). Feature highlights for the Touareg include standard dual steel exhaust pipes with chrome finishes, Climatronic dual-zone electrionic climate control (driver and passenger side controls), and power windows with pinch protection.
