The Highlander fits into Toyota’s line of SUVs as a mid-sized option. It is available in a base 2WD I4, as well as 4WD V6, 4WD V6 Limited, Hybrid 4WD-i, and Hybrid 4WD-i Limited. The base model Highlander comes with a 2WD, 2.7 litre, 4-cylinder engine, capable of producing 187 horsepower (hp) and 186 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque, and is controlled by a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 4WD V6 and 4WD V6 Limited, include a larger 3.5 litre, 6-cylinder engine capable of producing 270 horsepower (hp) and 248 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque, and is controlled by a 5-speed automatic transmission. Additional differences between the gas models are primarily based on available accessories and standard options, for instance, the 4WD V6 Limited comes standard with 19″ inch aluminum alloy wheels; whereas they are optional on the 4WD V6, and unavailable on the base 2WD I4. The Hybrid 4WD-i, 4WD-i Limited models come equipped with a 3.5 litre, 6-cylinder engine, capable of producing 280 horsepower (hp), with variances between the two models also based primarily on available accessories and standard options. The Hybrid model is based on a Gas/Electric V6 and provides considerable fuel economy with an Energuide estimate of 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres of city driving. Feature highlights for all models include cabin air filter, rear seat remote release in Cargo area, and standard scuff plates.
