The Ford Escape is the smallest of Ford’s available SUV offerings, and is available in XLT, Limited, Hybrid, and Hybrid Limited models. The XLT is available in either 2.5 litre Duratec I-4 engine or a 3 litre Duratec V6 engine with either front wheel drive (FWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD); the enhanced feature Limited model comes in 4 wheel drive (4WD) 2.5 and 3.0 litre engines; and the Hybrid and Hybrid Limited come with special 2.5 litre I-4 Atkinson-cycle engines. The base XLT model comes with a 5-speed manual transmission, all other XLT and Limited models are 6-speed automatic, and the Hybrid models use an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT). The Hybrid model is one of the most efficient versions on the market and is able to achieve 5.8 litres per 100 km of city driving (49 mpg). The base XLT model is capable of producing 171 horsepower (hp) and producing 171 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque; while the available 3.0 engine can produce 240 horsepower (hp) and 233 pound feet (lb.-ft.) of torque. Feature highlights include Battery saver with headlamps-off delay, SecuriLock passive anti-theft engine immobilizer system, and rear-view camera.
